Dry foods and Bakery products
Dry foods such as flour, potato crisps, peanuts, coffee and spices along with dried milk and cocoa products, contain more or less unsaturated fat. These products are, therefore, susceptible to oxidisation and rancidity.  The harmful processes can be effectively prevented by the Oxygen in the package being replaced by Carbon Dioxide or Nitrogen. One condition for maintaining an optimal modified atmosphere is of course that the package has barriers against Oxygen and moisture.

Mould is an aerobic micro-organism. It can be controlled effectively by using Carbon Dioxide, and the shelf life can thus be extended by many valuable days. Modified atmosphere is particularly suitable for rye bread, sweet bakery goods, bake-off products and various pies. If the concentration of Carbon Dioxide is balanced with Nitrogen, the appearance of the product will not be changed.

The Hotel, Restaurant and Catering Sector (HO-RE-CA)

Our products are supplied to meet a variety of requirements within this industry. In many cases we 'supply the suppliers', such as those involved in food processing and transportation.  However, cryogenic gases and Dry Ice have direct application within hotels and restaurants and the catering sector in general.

Typical areas of application

  • Carbon Dioxide for beer and soft drinks
  • Gases for foodstuff packaging
  • Dry Ice for transportation and storage

Fats, oils and proteins

Supercritical CO2 occurs when 'normal CO2' is heated under pressure (>31oC, >74 Bar). This supercritical phase behaves somewhere between a gas and a liquid and exhibits excellent solvent properties. As a result of this it has found many applications, such as the decaffeination of coffee, fat removal from processed foods, and the extraction of flavours and aromats from plant material.

Food Packaging material

CO2 gas can take part as useful monomer for a number of reactions, however, more specifically to form alkylene poly carbonates and alkylene oxides. Current uses for these 'new' polymers are for binders in the electronics industry as well as newer developments in film applications in food and medical applications.

Petfood

In general terms the processing of pet foods has similar demands to food processing for human consumption.
