Technology for reducing NOx emission from ships and ferries has been available for several years, particularly in Sweden. By equipping a ship or ferry with a SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) unit using NOxCare as reducing agent, NOx emissions can be reduced by approximately 90%. A SCR system needs the catalyst, the regulating unit, the NOxCare tank and installation of components to operate the system. Catalyst systems for commercial vehicles are currently commercially available from several manufacturers.
Sea transport will most often be part of a long distance, intermodal journey (ie transportation takes place over land, before and after). The most common refrigeration solution today is using integrated reefer containers, with most vessels having more than a 1000 reefer slots (container capacity). These have a standard reefer container size capable of storing several tons of product. Each container has it's own refrigeration system that can be controlled individually.
