Yara's security of supply adds value!
(2005-12-16) The UK market is currently seeing major challenges when it comes to CO2 sourcing and supply. With Terra's Billingham plant not producing due to high natural gas prices, and Kemira's Ince site delaying their post-maintenance production start up for the same reasons, CO2 suppliers within the UK are considering their contingency options as product runs short. For Yara this has been straightforward; turning to its existing terminals and shipping system to secure product supplies from the Netherlands and Norway. Yara has made significant investments in both Purfleet (South East) and Teesside (North East) to cover this very eventuality, allowing Yara to utilise its strong platform in ammonia production - the source of its high quality carbon dioxide. During the period of supply shortage within the UK, Yara will be able to supply all of its contracted customer requirements in full. Contingencies have already been established well into the New Year, as it is not clear when the production of ammonia in the UK will again become cost effective. The impact of a planned maintainence shutdown of Terra's Severnside factory in January could further tighten supplies within the UK, at which stage Yara will increase product supply through Purfleet import terminal to accommodate the situation. As a niche player within the UK industrial gas industry, Yara Industrial will continue to focus on its core business area of liquid carbon dioxide and dry ice (solid carbon dioxide), promoting the benefits that it is able to offer users in the UK including application development, quality control and security of supply! |
