Ferric chlorideIron Salts Iron based products are widely used in the water and wastewater industry for the removal of suspended solids during purification processes. They are also extensively used in effluent treatment for cracking emulsion of oil, blood and latex where pH depression is often required so the natural acidity of these products is advantageous. We can provide a number of different compounds, which are often used in conjunction with other environmental products in order to optimise performance.
Ferrous products are often more efficient and cost effective than Ferric salts for Phosphate removal as they precipitate phosphate at the stoichiometric dose and generally produce less sludge. Ferrous Chloride can be used to precipitate Sulphide in certain rising mains or sludge applications where retention times are very short. Iron Sulphide precipitation is virtually instantaneous, so for short contact applications, Ferrous Chloride can be used as an alternative to the more commonly used Nitrate chemicals, which require a slightly longer contact time. Ferric Chloride is generally preferred to Ferrous products in coagulation applications in water, effluent and sewage and coagulation efficiency is linked to valancy, so for example, tri-valent Ferric is generally superior to di-valent Ferrous ion. 40 % Ferric Chloride 40% Ferric Chloride is a dark brown liquid with a slightly pungent smell, miscible with water in all proportions, with a freezing point at -20oC.
